WRESTLING

Description
Wrestling is a sport in which two unarmed opponents grapple with one another. The goals is cause the opponent to lose balance and fall to the floor by throwing or tripping, and ultimately to pin the opponent's shoulders to the floor, through the use of body grips, strength, and leverage.

History
The sport of Wrestling is regarded by many, as the oldest sport in the world. Wrestling was part of the original Ancient Olympics and has been part of the modern Olympic movement since inception in 1896. Wrestling has gained much respect as a fighting art in the last decade with the emergence of MMA. It is one of the fundamental skills needed to compete at a high level.

Class Format
At Matmen, we focus on two of the more traditional and most widely practiced styles - Freestyle and Greco-Roman. 'Freestyle' wrestling allows the use of the entire body. That is, take downs and throws can involve both the legs and upper body. On the ground, competitors can also utilize both the upper and lower body in all tilts and locks. In Greco-Roman Style, all takedowns, tilts and locks focus on only the upper body (above the waist).

Attire
Shorts, t-shirt, knee pads, wrestling shoes, ear guards.
