MIXED MARTIAL ARTS (MMA)

Description
The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)class is a complete program covering the broad spectrum of kicking, boxing, clinch, takedowns, grappling/groundfighting and skill/attribute training drills for a complete mixed martial artist enthusiast and/or competitor.  This class derives it’s striking from Thai boxing, savate and boxing.  The clinch is a combination of Thai boxing, “dirty boxing” and Greco Roman wrestling.  Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling make up the takedown portion of this class.  The groundfighting is a combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Combat Submission Wrestling (CSW was developed by Sensei Erik Paulson, the former Light Heavyweight World Shooto Champion).

History
MMA is probably the oldest sports in the world. Once called Pankration, MMA has found new life in the modern era through organizations such as the UFC.

Class Format
Students will learn a mixture of striking, grappling, takedowns and submissions.

Attire
Shorts, t-shirt/rashguard. If sparring is involved additional equipment such as 14/16 oz gloves, shin pads, head gear, groin protection, vale tudo gloves and a mouthguard are recommended.
