Am I too old to do this?
It's cliché to say "It's never too late to start", but that is the absolute truth! Our members range from 5 years old to 65+. In the beginning the new member may find the workouts to be tough, but that is normal for anyone at any age. Like anything, you start slow and eventually with the help and guidance of the staff at the Kombat Arts Training Academy and the encouragement of your fellow students, you will be able to complete all the classes and workouts.
I don't want to fight, I just want to join for exercise and for fun, can I still join?
Definitely! Only a small percent of our members are competitive athletes. The majority are here to gain some skills, lose/maintain weight, get general exercise, and to have some fun in the process.
Will I get hurt?
There is always a risk of getting hurt in combat sports, however this is the exception and not the rule. The staff here at the Kombat Arts Training Academy ensure that safety is the number one priority. New members will be taught the fundamentals and will be overseen by the instructors to minimize and eliminate any injuries that can occur.
My schedule changes every week. How flexible are your hours?
We have classes throughout the day and night from Monday to Friday. Saturday is also packed with a variety of classes. Please see the schedule.
Can I try out the gym first before I commit to a membership?
At the Kombat Arts Training Academy we offer a FREE trial week to try all the classes. This will get you acquainted with the gym, the coaches and the other students. We feel everyone should try out the gym for free at first to see if it fits their needs, schedule and budget before making a decision.
Do I need to be in shape before I start?
Absolutely not. You can work at your own pace and gradually increase your level of activity as you gain more experience.
What do I wear to my first class? What about equipment like boxing gloves? Where can I buy equipment?
Some classes require certain things, but for your first week just wear something comfortable like a t-shirt and shorts. Items such as boxing gloves can be borrowed on the first day. We have a fully stocked pro shop if you decide you want to buy your own equipment, clothing and gear.
I want to join for fun and exercise, but I may also want to do some tournaments or competitions in the future. Can Kombat Arts help me get there? How long will it take?
Yes whether you want to compete in Muay Thai, Submission Grappling, Wrestling, Savate, Boxing and/or Mixed Martial Arts, the coaches and instructors at the Kombat Arts Training Academy will help you reach your goals. Many of our instructors have also competed and/or coached at the world class level and are willing to share their knowledge in order to help you become a competitor at your chosen sport. The length of time it takes to get to the competitive level depends on the individual. Our instructors will constantly evaluate your progress and will inform you when you are ready to compete.
I want to be an The Ultimate Fighter! I have watched the UFC® reality show on TV and I am ready to quit my job/school to do this full-time?
Mixed Martial Arts is an amazing and exciting sport. However, one must realize the time, dedication and sacrifice that is needed to become a competitive athlete in Mixed Martial Arts. The risks can easily outweigh the rewards if you jump into the sport full-time unknowingly. We suggest to contact our staff before making any hasty decisions. Come in for the free week and try out the classes to see if this is for you.
